Rep. Dan Ugaste (R-St. Charles) is expressing alarm and sending condolences following a murder-suicide shooting in Geneva on June 15.

“I’m so sorry to hear about the tragic shooting that occurred last night in Geneva that killed two people in an apparent domestic violence murder-suicide," he posted on his official website. "We continue to hope and work for a day when these tragedies stop happening and mourn with our community and their loved ones facing this unimaginable grief.”

According to CBS News Chicago, authorities have identified the victims as 49-year-old Chad Dockery, of Hinsdale, and his 48-year-old ex-wife Amanda Dockery. Police say Dockery phoned police to tell them he had killed his wife before turning the gun on himself while sitting in his vehicle in the driveway as officers arrived.

Authorities reported Amanda Dockery suffered two gunshot wounds, and that both victims were rushed to Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital in Geneva, where Amanda was pronounced dead at 6:06 p.m., and Chad was pronounced dead at 7:30 p.m.. Police later recovered a 9 mm handgun at the scene of the shooting.

Serving in the 65th District, Ugaste first assumed office back in 2019 and his current term extends through early 2025. The veteran lawmaker most recently sat on several committees, including the House's Energy & Environment, Judiciary - Civil, Labor & Commerce, Police & Fire and Transportation: Regulation, Roads & Bridges committees.
