Oswego Community Unit School District 308 Board of Education met Sept. 28.

The Board of Education of Community Unit School District 308, Kendall, Kane and Will Counties, Illinois, met in a regular session in the Community Room at Oswego East High School.
Note for file: All roll call votes are shown in alphabetical order in these minutes; however, during the Board Meeting votes are called out in accordance with Board Policy 2:220
1. Call to Order (8:00 a.m.)
The meeting was called to order at 8:03 a.m. by President LaTonya Simelton
1.1 Roll Call:
Upon Roll Call the following members answered present:
Dominick Cirone, Eugene Gatewood, Jennifer Johnson, Dr. Amy Murillo, LaTonya Simelton, Mary Jo Wenmouth
Members Absent (at roll call):
Jared Ploger (arrived at 8:08 a.m.)

2. Public Comment
2.1 Opportunity for the Public to address the Board of Education
There was no public comment
3. Understanding and Disrupting Microaggressions through Critical Awareness in the School Community
Dr. Seena Skelton and Dr. Ruthie Payno-Simmons from the Midwest Plains Equity Center, provided a workshop to our Board members regarding critical awareness of microaggressions in the school community, by providing them insights and practical strategies for effectively addressing these issues in the educational setting.
The Board members worked in small groups and covered the following topics:
• Describe what it means to be a critically conscious district leader.
• Understand critical empathy in relation to power dynamics in educational spaces.
• Explain the impact of microaggressions on minoritized students and educators in the school community.
• Use the 3-Step Micro-interventions on minoritized students and educators in the school community.
Ms. Johnson left the meeting at 10:16 am and Mr. Gatewood left at 11:30 am

A motion was made by Mr. Jared Ploger, second by Ms. LaTonya Simelton, to adjourn.
All were in favor unanimously to adjourn.
