A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the City of Plano, Illinois, on October 30, 2024. The request, issued by Kendall County Times, sought detailed information about both new and active residential and commercial building permits in the city.
As a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Kendall County Times believe that access to public records is crucial for fulfilling our professional responsibilities. This includes holding public institutions accountable and ensuring transparency for the public.
In our request, we asked for a list of all new residential and commercial building permits issued from January 1, 2023, up until the present date. We requested that this list include specific details such as the type of permit, date issued, fee paid, requester's name, address of the property involved in the permit, and contractor's name.
Additionally, we requested a list of all active residential and commercial building permits along with their current status. The same details as mentioned above were also requested for these active permits.
We firmly believe that as a member of the media involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional. We eagerly await the City of Plano's response to our request as we continue our mission to provide transparency and accountability within our community.
