Oswego East High School senior Valerie Anderson recently served as stage manager for the Illinois High School Theatre Festival all-state “Big Fish” production at Illinois State University (ISU).
Anderson was among over 500 students who auditioned for a chance to take part in the all-state project held Jan. 11-13, according to a press release. She attended weekend rehearsals and did some statewide traveling as part of her job.
She is Oswego East’s first student to be appointed as a stage manager for an all-state show, and only the second ever to participate, the release said. Anderson trekked to ISU with theatre directors Katie Belovsky and Nicole Schremp for preparation, and over two dozen supportive family and community members journeyed to enjoy the production.
Anderson is president for the East Theatre Thespian Honor Society, a group active at the high school since 2014 to encourage dramatic arts participation both inside and beyond the classroom environs, according to the release.
“We are so proud of Val's accomplishments!” Oswego East Theatre wrote on its Facebook page.
