Plano Community Unit School District 88 issued the following announcement on Aug. 22.
At the August Board meeting, Board members welcomed new Middle School staff members and celebrated recent achievements of high school students.
Superintendent Tony Baker and Plano Middle School Principal Mark Heller welcomed new staff members. Alyssa Dolan was recognized for her track accomplishments during the 2018 season. As a junior, she placed first in the 100 and 300-meter hurdles at the IHSA Sectional Track meet an proudly represented Plano High School at the State Meet. Alyssa is pictured above with Superintendent Tony Baker, Athletic Director Jim Schmidt, and Head Track Coach Brad Kunz.
National Hispanic Institute students spoke to the Board about the summer events they attended, including the Great Debate at Augustana College and the Lorenzo de Zavala (LDZ) Youth Legislative Session at University of St. Francis in Joliet. Plano participants were part of Sweet Sixteen, Elite Eight and Final Teams at the Great Debate and learned public speaking and leadership skills and met students from throughout the country. The LDZ national program is an opportunity for young people to learn how to navigate, manage and create large organizations by taking charge of their own youth government and proposing future community policies and projects.
