PLANO COMMUNITY UNIT SCHOOL DISTRICT 88: Winter Weather Safety for 2018-19 School Year

Winterweather

Plano Community Unit School District 88 issued the following announcement on Jan. 24.

Below are some tips to help our students and their families stay safe and warm during the winter months. The Plano School District respects the right of parents to make a decision regarding the attendance or late arrival of their students, during winter weather.

Winter Weather Safety

Check out the National Weather Service Winter Safety website to find out how to stay safe before, during and after a winter storm. weather.gov/winter

The best way to avoid hypothermia and frostbite is to stay warm and dry indoors and outdoors. When you must go outside, wear several layers of loose-fitting, lightweight, warm clothing. Trapped air between the layers will insulate you. Remove layers to avoid sweating and chill.

Outer garments should be tightly woven, water repellent and hooded.

Wear a hat because much of your body heat can be lost from your head.

Cover your mouth to protect your lungs from extreme cold.

Mittens, snug at the wrist, are better than gloves.

Try to stay dry and out of the wind.

If there are families in the district whose children are in need of coats, warm clothing, boots or accessories, please contact your school building social worker or the Administration Office.
