Lead

Plano Area Chamber Of Commerce issued the following announcement on June 6.

The Plano Chamber of Commerce and Leadership Plano are pleased to announce that applications for Leadership Plano’s Class 37 are now being accepted. Leadership Plano is seeking individuals who are committed to community service and are interested in strengthening their leadership skills and knowledge of the community.

“Leadership Plano gave me a better appreciation for my community, broadened my network, and strengthened my leadership skills,” Program Director Shannon Kmak said. “If you are looking for a program to provide you with an inside view of how our community operates, I would highly recommend applying for Class 37.”

Spanning nine months from September through May, the program is designed to increase community awareness and leadership skills. The opening retreat, a two-day orientation weekend beginning September 14, 2019, focuses on individual leadership styles and techniques.

From October through May, the class spends one day a month examining specific aspects of the community, such as education, government, local business and economic development, health and human services, the criminal justice system, the arts, and more.

Plano Chamber President/CEO Jamee Jolly stated, “As a Leadership Plano Class 30 graduate, I was amazed at the opportunities the program provided to me to connect with community leaders, meet other professionals in the Plano community, and become more knowledgeable on everything Plano.”

“As an alum, I am also excited to share that leadership development-focused curriculum has been added to the program. This type of curriculum with help to develop better leaders that can then apply what they learn through their service on boards, commissions, or as an elected official,” Jolly continued.

Gaining a broad perspective of the Plano community equips participants to become well-rounded leaders ready to apply their skills in a variety of ways. Leadership Plano provides a foundation for long-term involvement in Plano and assists in launching a supportive community network of colleagues and friends.

The application form, recommendation form, and curriculum calendar for Class 37 can be found at www.leadershipplano.org. The deadline to submit applications is 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 15, 2019.
