ILLINOIS STATE HOUSE DISTRICT 97: Batinick’s Statement on The Reproductive Health Act

97

Illinois State House District 97 issued the following announcement on June 12

Today Governor JB Pritzker signed the Reproductive Health Act to massively expand Illinois’ abortion law.

State Representative Mark Batinick (R-Plainfield) released the following statement after the bill signing:

“Signing this into law for Illinois is an unnecessary and rushed effort to keep abortions legal in Illinois should Roe v. Wade be overturned. It was passed in reaction to what is occurring in other states around the nation. Yet, our reality in Illinois is that abortion was legal before this and it still would be even without this law.

“I did not vote for this bill because it is a dangerous expansion of our current law. While it is called the Reproductive Health Act, I think this is actually detrimental to the health of women, and poses greater health risks by deregulating abortion clinics, eliminating restrictions on late term abortions, legalizing partial birth abortions and removing criminal penalties against doctors performing illegal abortions. In addition to those concerns, the nullification of the parental notification act is most disturbing. This is a serious implication that makes us unable to enforce current law, requiring parents of minor children to be notified if their daughter seeks and obtains an abortion.”
