Our governor is patting himself on the back, saying how Illinois is financially stable by pointing to our current revenue surplus. However, it's extremely misleading.

Let's not forget, pandemic relief pumped an insane amount of cash into Illinois. What's an insane amount, how about $180 billion? Yep, read it again, $180 billion! This number includes $8.1 billion directly to the state along with all the private sector assistance generating additional tax revenue.

So, why wouldn't things look good with this infusion. Unfortunately, there's a 4.5% projected revenue decrease on the horizon. Ouch!

Here's the truth. Pandemic relief created a false illusion of stability and Illinois remains on the cliff of financial disaster. Nothing has changed and sadly Democrats along with status quo Republicans seem set on pushing us over this cliff.

The coming generations, our kids and grandkids, may never fully climb out. The time for change is now and this election cycle is a tremendous opportunity to send true conservatives to Springfield. Let's replace Democrats and status quo Republicans with leaders willing to stand against adversity and say the long forgotten two letter word. No.

No, we can't afford to continue same old same old practices. Instead, let's start backing away from the cliff together, one step at a time.

Davis is a candidate for the 75th House District.
