Op-ed: Where's the common sense - vaccine, test or no access

Despite some recent judicial blows, our governor remains steadfast on dictating and mandating nonsense. Look no further than our local community college, Waubonsee. To simply enter a building, you must show either a) proof of vaccination or b) negative Covid test within the past week. They're literally funneling students through limited entry points, scanning barcodes, or denying access.

Let's pause and view this issue pragmatically for a moment...

These same students walk into gyms, offices, restaurants, shops, and stores with no issue. They enter some of these facilities daily with large segments of the general population. However, the minute they walk into classrooms, they must show barcodes? What makes classrooms any different than say Marshalls, Planet Fitness, or Target? It's fairly easy arguing a more "at-risk demographic" exists outside of classrooms, right?

On a similar note, the vaccine doesn't necessarily prevent Covid. Not a controversial statement, simply noting a fact and begging another question. Why are only non-vaccinated students required to test if non-vaccinated and vaccinated may contract Covid?

This topic isn't anti-vaccine, but showcases how our governor continually rules without reason. I'm running for state representative and together we'll restore common sense and courage to Illinois. It's time to ditch barcodes and keep the state out of personal medical decisions.
