Did you know Illinois has the second highest gas tax in the nation? Anyone else tired of our state consistently being one of the first in last place? It's simply maddening and unsustainable.
Worse yet, not long ago, some Republicans voted to double the gas tax. Republicans voting for tax increases, like the gas tax, is similar to Democrats voting against tax increases, only we never witness this behavior from Democrats. So why do Republicans insist on carrying water for Democrats? The answer involves back room politics and honestly muddies and sickens the issue at hand.
The issue at hand is true Republicans should never vote for expanding government through raising taxes, like the gas tax. My opponent, your current Republican State Representative David Welter, is one of only a few Republicans who voted to double the gas tax. So, thanks to Representative Welter, you're now paying more at the pump than ever before, but not just at the pump.
You see, everything we purchase is connected to gas. Our groceries, our goods, our hobbies all come to us through something consuming gas. So, we're not just paying more at the pump, we're paying more everywhere, placing additional strains on an already overtaxed people.
This issue among many others drove me into this race. My name is Jed Davis and I'm running to be your State Representative. I can promise you I'll never carry water for Democrats and vote for things like expanding government through doubling the gas tax.
I don't know about you, but my pocketbook is tired of Illinois draining it and we need elected officials with a backbone saying no more. We can't rebuild our state by increasing taxes. We must instead budget and throttle back spending. I'm a true conservative leader and a true Republican, someone who will work tirelessly to permanently repeal our gas tax, the second highest in the nation.
It's time we're no longer one of the first in last place and together win back the State of Illinois.
Davis is a candidate for the 75th House District.
