A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the City Of Plano Finance Department on October 31, 2024. The request was made by us at Kendall County Times, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
In our quest for transparency and accountability in public institutions, we requested specific records under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140. The requested records pertain to city sales tax data from January 1, 2023, to October 31, 2024.
The details we sought include a list of businesses that paid sales tax to the city within the specified period. We asked for this list to contain the business name, business type, and the amount of sales tax each business paid.
Additionally, we requested information on the total amount of sales tax that the city collected from January 1, 2023, to October 31, 2024.
As a media organization committed to reporting news to the public and holding public institutions accountable, we believe access to such public records is essential in fulfilling our professional responsibilities. We also stated our eligibility for a fee waiver as a media professional due to our role in disseminating information.
We await a response from the City Of Plano Finance Department and will keep our readers updated with any developments.
