A report commissioned by Oswego School District 308 shows six of the district's 22 facilities will operate at least 25% over capacity within five years, despite a projected enrollment decrease elsewhere in the district.
WSPY reports the projection was presented during a school board meeting by Rob Schwartz, a consultant with Kansas-based RSP and Associates. The centers identified include five elementary schools and one junior high: Fox Chase, Grande Park, Lakewood Creek, Southbury and Long Beach elementaries, along with Traughber Junior High.
While the board considers changing up borders to deal with the projected capacity problems, board member Toni Morgan said she anticipated pushback from the community.
"I need a graph of how many parents are going to complain, and how we're going to get beyond that," Morgan said. "That's the most important graph we need."
Superintendent John Sparlin said the district has gone three school years since the last change to boundaries.
